Flyers get my vote here too.. I just don't like the lack of balance in the Sen's new logo.. the old one was *FAR* better.

Flyers is by far better even tho i do like the Sens new logo.

If the Flyers don't win here, it will be proof positive of rampant Canadian Homerism.

@Artymous: Most Sens fans would agree with you that the older logo was better, but the new one is growing on us!

As for the voting, there is no way we're gonna lose to a flying 'p'! We've already taken out two 'original six' logos and we'll happily take you out as well...

Mmmm that flying P is kind of ugly compared to the sens logo.

Gian said...

come on flyers fans and hockey fans...the flying P is classic and also the leagacy of the team is important....new logos like the sens dont mean they should win just because they have new uniforms....lets go flyers

DylanSensFan said...

Expect a close race.

As a designer I still voted for my team.

GO SENS GO.

They're both good logos, but I'm a Flyers fan and the P is a classic logo. So there. Looks like it's tied 300-300. Should be an interesting race.

The flyers logo has a meaning Ottawas doesnt Flyers hands down!

I still don't get the Sens' new logo. Is he coming out of the circle? And if so, for what reason? What year did the Romans invade Canada?

TJ said...

I find it odd how people keep saying that the roman has nothing to do with Ottawa....like a P with wings has anything to do with Philly, or a B with spokes has anything to do with Boston.

Its a freakin logo....not a "which picture has the most meaning" contest.

Also makes no sense to vote on which logo is classic...its about which logo looks better....ignore the teams, the history, the meaning.

Which logo is nicer.

Unknown said...

ugh, i really dont get that 'p' thing. i hate the logo itself, not to mention the colours

"JO" you just burnt the logo thats what i was about to do

flyers get my vote

I find the flyers logo too plain compared to the Senators one. With that reason I'd have to go with the Ottawa logo.

Anonymous said...

how can it be argued that a p with wings has nothing to do with the philadelphia flyers, and that a b in a hub has nothing to do with the boston bruins, who play in a city nicknamed "the hub?" most of these logos have been explained to death, where have you been?

DylanSensFan said...

Our Senators logo represents victory with the laurel leafs on the half circle and the warrior represents our team and fans as a whole.

What exactly does the Flyers name have to do with Philly? I've been a hockey fan for years and was always like.....uh, like flyers that come in the mail? I take it with the winged P, and I agree it is a classic logo, some sort of bird thing, but what does it have to do with Philly? At least Ottawa is the capital, so naturally Senators are there. can anyone explain the reason for the flyers name?

For those wondering about the history of the name of the Flyers and their logo, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia regarding the subject:

"Flyers was the name chosen for the new franchise as it conveyed the motion and excitement that was to be consistent with both hockey in general, as well as the new Philadelphia club. It also went well phonetically with Philadelphia. Despite the idea for the name being the brainchild of Ed Snider's sister, Phyllis, the name was officially chosen by then nine-year-old Alec Stockard, amongst others who had all unknowingly chosen the winning name in a mail in contest conducted by Acme Markets which drew 25,000 entries. However, Stockard had spelled his entry "Fliers", as it appears first in the English dictionary. To this day, it is unknown why the second spelling of the word, replacing the "i" with a "y" was chosen over the first. Some of the names that were considered but abandoned in favor of Flyers were: Blizzards, Greenbacks, Huskies, Ice Caps, Ice Picks, Knights, Lancers, Liberty Bells, Quakers, Raiders, Royals, and Sabres.
The flying P has been the Flyers' primary logo since the beginning.
The flying P has been the Flyers' primary logo since the beginning.

The Flyers' logo was a creation of artist Sam Ciccone. Like the name, the idea behind the logo was to convey the motion and speed of hockey, while referring to both the sport and the city. Ciccone came up with the now familiar stylized P containing an orange hockey puck, with four wings coming off the back. This logo was reflective of both the team's new name and the city of Philadelphia. Although Ciccone created other designs, the P was almost instantly the clear choice for all involved."

Phonetic spelling has been a big part of sports names in Philly. The Phillies (most obvious), the Philly Phanatic, and the Phantoms (and Phlex, their mascot) all start with Ph, and "Flyers" also has a Ph sound. It's just one of those weird things you understand if you grew up around Philly. Hope this clarifies things a little.

I sense the Sens will have to make another comeback.

I was a big flyers fan as a kid (Ron Hextall was my god), but I don't know how anyone could really love the logo. Much less call it symetrical or balanced!

While I prefer the Sens old 2D logo that seems to have been decommissioned, the new 'mean' senturion is still a hell of a lot better than Philly.

Unknown said...

kay, coming back (interesting turnout so far)... nice points, but the 'p' thing does NOT look its its flying! can no one see that?!? sure, so if you just took the outline of the so called 'warrior' it looks horrible, but its got a nicer colour scheme, as well as it just looks nicer overall.

the 'p' thing just plainly looks like some typa logo designed by a kid trying to be 'cool' (this would probably be the impression from your average teenager off the street who knows almost nothing about hockey, if you didnt tell them the history of each one) and as close as ill get to it ;)

Again I'm forced to reluctantly vote against the Sens. It's a huge shame they've completely abandoned their profile-face logo in exchange for the awkward-looking 3/4 view (although the current version does look much better than what they used to have). A few years ago they had the best logo in the Eastern Conference, but like almost every team in the NHL this summer, their designs have suffered at the hands of Reebok.

i like the sen's logo but it can't touch the Flyers.

Gian said...

i hate this poll now..it is so freakin biased towards canadien teams....4 of them are in the final eight..this is bullshit..if the senetors beat the flyers its a travesty..they cant shine the flyers skates....screw you senetors...and the dorky canadien fans.....gooooooooooo flyers....come on people get those votes up for the flyboys..not for the stupid roman soldier

tele-mon said...

I said this on another poll: a logo should be simple enough that a twelve-year old can draw it on his notebook in middleschool! Think about that Van Halen logo - I didn't even like the band back then, but I could draw that thing in my sleep. If the Flyers lose this one, all hope is lost. Shouldn't the Ottowa "Senator" logo be some fat white guy in a toga, not a centurian? Nobody can draw that the same way twice.

tele-mon said...

I mean Ottawa. "Who OOwns the Cheifs, OWNS!"

this one is too close for comfort.

You know we are going to make a come back near the end.

I picked the flying P over the Trojan condom dude. Can't go wrong with the Broadstreet bullies, unless they go back to the pants.

LB said...

In response to Gian, Canadian (not canadien) fans have to be enthusiastic about their clubs and the NHL to make up for the lack of attention in the U.S. Hockey was born up here, hockey reigns supreme here. Go Sens.

Unknown said...

This is an absolute joke...Nice superhero logo Senator fans. The classic flying P is one of the best logos in sports. This entire poll is just a collection of Canadians trying to find a way to out-do Americans...again. Canada = America Jr. Oilers over Blackhawks?! Give me a break.

Gian said...

yea ryan i agree...why is this poll even close...this is a biased canadian crowd....give me a break...come on flyers fans...get your vote...the sens cant shine the flyers skates...lets go allready

Unknown said...

all ill say here is that people should stop voting on logo HISTORY, cos you cant expect a expansion team to have as much history as everyone else (especially the original six, this is in defence of all expansion teams)

DylanSensFan said...

Hockey came from Canada... and who made the playoffs last year? Certainly not the Flyers! Why would the Senators want to shine the Flyers skates? Not to mention, the Flyers will only be better this season because they added Canadians period.

This is our game. You have a problem with that, then ask your TV stations to stop filtering all the reality crap that we get up here and start televising some hockey. Then we might believe you care about Hockey like we do.

We'll come back and overtake you. If we don't, it won't be for a lack of trying.

Oh Canada and GO SENS GO!

JohnGal5296 said...

DylanSensFan:

First of all what does the Sens making the playoffs last year have anything to do with who's logo is better.

Hockey originated in Canda? SO WHAT! The US has more hockey teams in the National Hockey League than Canada.

Philly loves its hockey. We are rich in tradition going back to the 60's, and the Sens go back to where, 1992?

Talk about history-
Flyers = 2 CUPS
Sens = NONE

James said...

You wanna make this about which team has the most history, Ottawa still wins. The "original six" aren't the original teams, just the original NHL teams. Ottawa won the very first Stanley Cup, Philly didn't even know how to spell hockey when we did. Ottawa has 10 Cups since the Cup was first made, Philly still has 8 to go before you can hold a candle to us.

tough call. the flyers logo is definitely a classic but ottawa has one of the best new logos in the league (the updated one is even better). i give the sens the edge. philly's looks a bit boring next to the centurion.

Unknown said...

The Flyers logo is a classic.

Let's Go Flyers!

ChrisGoalie39 said...

I have been a big Habs fan all my life and the Sens were always my second favourite team. But because I like the Sens, doesn't mean I'll vote for them, I actually voted for the Flyers. And I also hate the Leafs, but I voted for their logo that should have beat the New Jersey logo.

I find it quite odd the Sens are winning this one.. but it's only by a bit, thank god.. we wouldn't want this new piece o'crap beatin' the Flyer's old and classic beauty, so vote Flyers.

Artymous, I agree, their old one was far better.

Julie said...

A logo being classic doesn't make it better looking.

Go Sens! All Canadian conference finals =)

BloodOrange said...

C'mon all you homers. You cannot possibly believe the Senators'logo is better. The Flyers' logo is an icon whereas the Senators just have some goofy cartoon face. And why are the "Senators" represented by a picture of a centurion? Should the Flyers be represented by a picture of an airport baggage handler?

DylanSensFan said...

Blood Orange, once again you are another person with no concept or understanding of design terms.

An icon would be a picture of you, because it is an exact representation of you in photographic form.

"Semiotics. a sign or representation that stands for its object by virtue of a resemblance or analogy to it."

The Symbol that Philly calls it's logo, is exactly that; a symbol, as in representing your team in a symbolic manner.

Just as our Ottawa Senators logo is a symbol. It symbolises traits that our Ottawa Senator team wish to have.

Even after reading the history of the Philly logo posted by someone else, the only symbolism I see is that of the wings creating motion or movement relating to hockey and the flyers name. "P" of course the initial for your cities name.

Sure it's a neat logo. Is it iconic? No! Is it any more symbolic than the Ottawa Senators logo? NO!

The Flyers have the best logo ever. I'm really surprised to see it in a tight race against the Sens nice, but not great, logo.

Ok, something fishy going on here. At 7:07pm Sunday Sept 16, the poll is not allowing me to vote, saying it's closed. What's even more suspicious is that the Flyers were losing by 30 votes one minute before the poll closed and were ahead by about 3 votes seconds before it allegedly closed. Something's going on and I find it incredible that votes for the Flyers logo go up at a rate of about 20-30 votes per minute when they start losing. This poll is FIXED

AngrySmurf said...

I was about to submit my vote for the sens when i found the poll closed!!! What the hextall is going on around here?!!?! the poll says that it closes at 11:59pm!!! We need an explanation please!!

Chris said...

Hi Daniella! Somebody's quick with their words before having the facts, aren't they? It's all right, I forgive.

Just wanted to let you and everyone else know that I'm testing out something new that should hopefully stop attempted repeat voters. So if you've already voted, the poll may appear to you to be closed. It's not. Those who haven't voted should still be able to do so.

Enjoy your night, all!
