Wow, Buffalo has a history of having really ugly logos.
the 1970 logo kicks a$$! One of the best ever. BTW I am definately not a Buffalo fan either.
Why does everyone think their first logo is the best? It looks awful. There's no continuity between anything that goes on inside that circle. And god, the colours...
To the first commenter:
It was a clause in the expansion contracts of the Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres that neither team could ever win a Stanley Cup Final, and that they always had to have bad, generic looking logos. Whattyagonnado.
From 1996 on Buffalo indeed has and I quote Joe Namath "strugg-a-lllled" in the logo department.
I feel Sabres fans were ripped off when they were told by Larry Quinn the team was returning to blue and gold. A lot of enthusiastic fans thought that meant a return to the vintage logo or some variant close to it.
What we got is a piss colored Buffalo Bills logo reject.
Where is the 3rd Alt logo from the red jerseys?
That was the best one....

Why does Buffalo use a Buffalo as it's logo?Only the first logo has any mention of a sabre.Just thinking out loud here.....
I was in college in upstate New York when the Sabres introduced their red third jersey. The next day, I'm eating my lunch and I hear this conversation from the next booth:
Sabres Fan 1: Dude did you catch the game last night?
Sabres Fan 2: Yeah, good game, but what was with the weird jersey?
1: Thats their new third jersey.
2: Yeah, but whats with the swords. Is it kind of like that weird horse the flames where.
1: I dunno, I think it has something to do with the guy who started the team in the 60s. They had swords on their old logo.
If only I was making this up. Dumbest fans ever.
To the person who thinks our original logo is awful and has no continuity, I guess you don't understand that our team name is the "Buffalo Sabres," and inside the circle is a buffalo, and crossed sabres. I know that can be a hard concept to grab, but if you try, it's really not so hard.
Our original logo remains our best. The current "thing" on our jerseys now makes me ashamed to be a Sabres fan.
The Buffaslug is garbage!!! I wish they would permanently go back to thier original logo...
To generalize that Sabres fans are the dumbest fans ever from what a couple college kids said, especially if they went to the same college as you, is an enormous step especially when you spell wear (as in to wear a pair of jeans) as where. Just so you know, where is often the start of a question, such as "Where in upstate NY did you go to school?" and "Where else did they let you in after you failed out of english?"
As for Sabres fans being dumb, I would consider that one of the most uninformed statements you could have possibly made. Sabres fans and Buffalonians in particular are some of the most knowledgeable in the sport because they pay attention to it, eat, drink and breathe it.
Have a nice day
I'm excited for this poll because it will be the most accurate indication of how much that slug logo is NOT the reason that jersey sold so well last year.
Chris, do you plan on doing a poll with the Caps' different logos?
Ben,
I got the impression that the anonymous poster about the college students was implying that those two fans were the dumbest, not Sabres fans, but I could be wrong...
I agree with a lot of you that not having a sabre in the logo of a team called the Sabres is rather ridiculous. I do think that it is cool that Bufalo is one of the few teams that can also include such a distinct representation of their city in their logo though. John Slabyk's blue and gold project is definitely the way to go.
1970 jersey the best, you got your buffalo and your sabres. Enough said
the new jersey with the old logo would look awesome.
As for the buffalo haters, they should leave their useless responses at the door. We dont care about you or your opinion. this is just a poll on logos.
The '96 jersey was actually not bad, but the fact that they switched from unique colours to overused colours annoyed me. Carolina, Ottawa, NJ, Phily all have that black and red. It was a bad move. Keep the blue and gold.
These are three of the ugliest logos to ever disgrace the NHL. How appropriate that Buffalo entered the league with Vancouver, the only other franchise with a logo history even more pathetic than the Sabres'.
Yeah, I too would like to know where in "Upstate NY" that guy went to school. Because obviously he went to school in Plattsburgh or Potsdam if he said "Upstate NY".
I can't stand when everyone in NYC and the rest of the country call anything above White Plains UPSTATE. Hello?!?!?!?! At that point why don't you just say "somewhere in the entire state of New York"???
Why is it everyone else in "Upstate NY" refers to the 5 REAL regions; Western, Central, Southern Tier, Northern, Captial Region(Eastern) and Down State; when we are mentioning areas of NY?

The 1970 logo looks like the Buffalo is getting neutered. All three of them are ugly, but if I were to pick my poison, I'd go with the 2006 version. The logo would be better if the shoulder logo from the previous sweater (the B with the sabre) would have been used as the main logo.
holy crap i honest to god for all these years thought that the backwards c type part of there silver one was the mouth i just now saw the buffalo or whatever it is in that logo im very depressed with myself

I speak of the interaction of the elements of the logo. The Flames actually have some continuity between their team name and their city name in their logo. Ditto Toronto. And Tampa Bay. And Edmonton. Buffalo's original logo looks like it was carelessly cobbled together in 20 minutes. It's one thing to actually have the elements of your team's name in a logo, the original Buffalo design is proof that it's entirely another thing to actually TAKE those elements and do something that requires 'creativity' or 'the mind of someone who has figured out the pants-first-THEN-shoes rule' Is the Buffalo doing anything with the sabres in any way? If it wasn't for the bland circle, are they even sharing space with one another? It's two separate logos fused together Frankenstein-style, and I don't understand why people practically orgasm at the thought of such poor design making a comeback. As awful as the Buffaslug is, at least they actually figured out the one-logo-per-jersey-is-enough concept. Granted, they yet again made the error of forgetting that their team is called the Sabres, not the Buffaloes, but then again the people of Buffalo have been fooled into thinking their first jersey is the best they can do so I guess it's par for the course.
Hey anonymous...if that's your real name, let's change the city of Buffalo's name to "Molluskville".
Then will be called the Molluskville Mollusks.
No more Buffalo...No more Sabres.
"No more Buffalo...No more Sabres."
That would be a glorious day.
hey since when are the sabres unveiling their new uniforms?
Hey Ken-
9/15 is the "unveiling" date.... nothing big. Just going to start selling them at HSBC that day.

this history logo voting is really cool Chris. just dont forget the caps!!!!!!!!
The one I voted for is an uninspired, generic logo in a circle. And it is sad that it is light years better than the 2 most recent logos.
I can't believe that 9 % of the voters voted for the Buffaslug.
Ok...here is the million dollar question....are you a buffalo or are you a sabre? Buffalo is where you are from, it should not be your logo. Sabre could be a sword or a tiger, and the only orange and black I see is down in south Phila. Someone in management needs to devise a new identity and image.
welp, here goes.
"Our original logo remains our best. The current "thing" on our jerseys now makes me ashamed to be a Sabres fan."
Get off the bandwagon. Does it matter what is on the team's jersey? You're talking about a team that's been setting franchise records the last two years, once wearing the goat head logo jerseys and once wearing the Buffaslug.
"holy crap i honest to god for all these years thought that the backwards c type part of there silver one was the mouth i just now saw the buffalo or whatever it is in that logo im very depressed with myself"
uh... what? you should be depressed with yourself, that logo wasn't very difficult to figure out.
"Ok...here is the million dollar question....are you a buffalo or are you a sabre? Buffalo is where you are from, it should not be your logo. The million dollar answer? We are Sabres FROM Buffalo. Hence why the 1970 logo works so well. Though I'm willing to bet that those of you who are so adamant about the Sabres not having a Buffalo for a logo would much rather vote for the logo from the 3rd jerseys we had for a while, with just the Sabres in them. Keep in mind that the Buffalo fans are very passionate about their sports teams, and as such, the teams are very proud to represent their city. As much as I hate them, that includes the Bills as well.
Someone may wish to inform Buffalo fans that the name of their team is the SABRES. They are NOT the Buffalo Buffaloes. The 1970 logo is the only one that accurately demonstrates the name of the team.
i dont care about no history of their old logo and how it has both a buffalo and sabres...the old logo just looks like crap and and the new one is the best logo in the league by far
Why the hell does everyone hate the logos? the fans didnt care for them at first and now there jeresys are the best selling in the US. so to all of you who hate the sabers...STFU!!!!!
Think long and hard be open minded about this one. The logo is NOT the reason the jersey was number one selling jersey in the league last season...
That slug looks like it could be sold as bait in the Bass Pro Shop Larry Quinn is trying to build over the Buffalo Memorial Auditorium once it's demolished.
Chris -> Just wondering if you were going to add more 'vintage' logos to vote on for the change of logos over the years. I think it's safe to say that every team has changed in one way or another, and you could set it up in a two part process. Vote the best logo per team, then collect all the winners and set up another bracket. Once you have the modern logo champ, then it could face off against the vintage logo champ for the ULTIMATE NHL LOGO. Just a thought to stretch things into the regular season.
i think both the 1970 and the 1996 logos are great logos, the slug on the hand is piece of shit. why is the sabre yellow, why is one horn white and the other is yellow, i see its body but wherre is the legs?...just a few observations that prove this is by far one of the worst logos ever...sabres fans should be ashamed.
for last poster. please see sabres.com message boards and you will see that we already hate the slug. Buffalo fans aren't as stupid as you all think. We hate the slug as much as the next person. We just hate it more because of Larry Quinn, because hes such an idiot.
In other words, YES. WE ARE ASHAMED!
I agree with tose who think the 1970 logo is dumb and looked like it was put together 5 minutes before they unvailed it. Need I say anything about the buffalslug/barney rubbles hair? The best logo they had was the red alternate, or the B with the sword.
o my god
I hate Buffalo with a passion. But I have to say their original logo is by far the best. Anything can beat the golden sperm that they have on their jerseys now.
