New Stars Home Sweater?

Just as a follow-up to my earlier post, we've got a screen shot from the NHL 2k8 commercial featuring goalie Marty Turco in what appears to be the Stars new home sweater.

As far it being from a video game ad, this seems to be an actual photo/video as opposed to a video game rendering. Thoughts?

I like these shirts, the college style looks way better than the futuristic looking crap we've seen from some teams. My only gripe is black taking over the whole uniform, green is so under used in the NHL which is sad, some of the sharpest hockey uniforms I have seen are green and white. Overall pretty nice shirts.

Absolutely awful. That's not a logo - that's a basketball jersey with shoulder pads. The Stars went from having a great looking, stylish look to this? Boring as hell...and why put the city name on the home sweater?!?! Do they think the fans don't know where they are?

It's amazing to me that a team that could come up with the brilliant advertising campaign we saw a week or two ago could also come up with this dreck.

Yes it is from the video game ad, but it is a live shot. The ad is a combination of gameplay and live action shots of Spezza and Turco hanging out. If you're looking for more pictures from the ad, check out the 2ksports site, where you can find pictures of Spezza in his uni, and a picture of him and Turco in street clothes just hanging out.

It just seems sad when teams go from a pretty decent jersey to something like this. Why change (as opposed to making something similar in the new cut) if you're going to downgrade?

I'm sure this was just a shirt put together for the game and commercials...

The game makers have built in a password system that won't allow the new jerseys to be seen until the NHL and NHLPA have given them the green light (which means when they are released)...

This is probably just the 'spaceholder' jersey until the real one is officially released...

That's so bad, im from Buffalo, I know bad Jerseys. This is just awful, no logo, no tradition, nothing interesting at all, its boring. Blah, we dont play Dallas and im never going to be Dallas in the videogames, so i never have to see them anyway.

What is up with teams having to remind everyone where they are from? Do Dallas and Vancouver fans have a hard time realizing where they are?

Players have been filming commercials in these jerseys for the last week and a half. There have been leaks and rumors for weeks. The beat writer explained in detail what they looked like before last season was even over. It's time to get over the denial, these are the jerseys for the forseeable future. We might as well get used to it.

Just curious, does anyone know where the Stars and the Canucks play? I can't seem to remember.

From that photo and the photos taken at the Dr Pepper StarCenter it looks like these will be the jerseys. I think that they would look alright if they just took the number off the front. I also agree with everyone else that green would have be much better.

I am wondering if they will move the "Dallas" home jersey to the third jersey when they bring those back. And then they could use a green jersey with the primary logo as their standard home jerseys.

I can hope can't I?

When did Turco sign a contract with the Mavs?

The saddest thing for me to accept is the loss of originality and individuality. I know the Stars got their design from the old All-Star Game design but it was unique to a regular team. This whole thing just seems like a disaster to me though in that the league allowed an outside entity to just come in and change everybody. Obviously, some teams bucked the trend and stayed with the status quo (Detroit, Montreal, NY Rangers...) but the similarity between some teams is striking now (Pittsburgh-Ottawa-Tampa Bay, Washington-Columbus...). It seems as if the league has forgotten that the jersey is the uniform that represents the fans and the city that they originate from, not a couple of guy's taste's within each organization. It's like Reebok had about 5 or 6 different designs within their "template" and gave the teams that to choose from. All this distaste so far and we still have nearly half the league left to show.

other than the logo (or whatever you want to call that), it looks like the stripe pattern of the duck's 3rd jersey (the best ducks jersey yet), from 2 years ago! i agree with the person that said it looks like a basketball jersey with sleeves.

Craptacular. They look worse than the Mooterus.

I like them, simple & classy.
Contrary to what some of you think, A small number centered on the front has occurred fairly often over the history of hockey at various levels. I think this would have made a great third jersey and it needs some hem striping.

You got me with the title. I thought the Sharks were moving.

And, I like the jerseys. Plain and simple.

They don't need that number though.

When even the HFBoards and Stars boards have pages of ugh, you've got a problem.

Put the guy who made the billboards in charge of kit design.

Ah yes, the "oh crud, the logo proposal deadline is TODAY?!" approach.

As a guy who is mostly easygoing and unhateful of most teams jerseys.... wow, these suck

I would hope this isn't the truth but considering most leaked images are turning out to be near 100% correct, my favorite jerseys have just gone downhill in a hurry.

So let's see, you want more fans to watch the NHL, so you start a mandatory jersey switch, which is now making fans angry and not wanting to purchase the new look. Sounds like a genius marketing strategy. Wow.

Its horrible, its a terrible terrible design, and like said above it looks like a basketball jersey with long sleeves. I understand the college style, but this is the NHL! not the NCAA.

They had such nice jerseys, with the star outline and the black and the gold and white and green, but this is worse than those old ones from like the mid-90s.

The only thing i can hope for is that that this really isnt the actual jersey but maybe just for the video possibly so they wouldnt leak it? I dont know but i hope it is that way...

Putting the name on the jersey has nothing to do with reminding home fans or visiting fans of who the team is... I'm sick of people saying that...its moronic at best. Why not just put a dark blank jersey on for every home game since the fans will know who they are...

Wordmarking on hockey jerseys is very old school and better than a lot of junk out there. Take a look through hockey jersey history and you will see that. Not to mention the NHL's history is only a very small portion of the overall history of the game...which is much more important.

The stars jerseys with the star outline have been atrocious since their last year in Minnesota and the only thing bad I can say about this one is that if its all black, its a bit boring...

I can't believe how many people are complaining about the new jerseys when 95% of the players love them...

"This whole thing just seems like a disaster to me though in that the league allowed an outside entity to just come in and change everybody." Final designs are from the teams... don't blame the league for anything you don't like...I hate Bettman more than the next guy, but individual team designs have nothing to do with him...

lol - Jim, I agree - I don't get it - no need. the "Vancouver" totally takes away from their jersey in my opinion. Logos are fine on their own...they obviously didn't ask for the fans input on these designs...
