Result: Luongo vs Turco

LUONGO NAMED CHAMPION!

Congratulations go out to Roberto Luongo today! Voters here at NHLToL have chosen his mask as the best in the league! The Luongo finished the final poll with a 54% of the nearly 2,000 votes.

Thanks to everyone who voted! This tournament saw the most votes cast ever on the site. I hope the next one will be as popular.

With this tournament over, I'm taking this opportunity to announce that the brand new ICETHETICS will launch on July 1. The big question I've had about this is whether the URL will change. In fact, it will so be prepared to update your bookmarks. ICETHETICS will replace NHLToL and ToHL.

NHLToL and ToHL will both remain online but will no longer be updated as of July 1. All of the concept art, jersey news, logo tournaments, and everything else you've come to expect from NHLToL will be featured on ICETHETICS. NHLToL will simply continue to serve as an archive. For now, I just wanted to make you guys aware that this change is finally coming.

And over the next couple of weeks I'll be detailing the new features you'll find at ICETHETICS, including specialized concept art galleries, an artist partnership program, more new tournaments for you to vote in, and a whole lot more. Get ready!

Meh. Luongo's mask is meh at best. My love for the Sabres cast aside, Miller v Turco would have been a much better final, and I think Miller's Tribal Buffalo mask would've been the winner.

Also, I'm jazzed to see the new look for the site as it becomes Icethetics!

i dont know how Roberto won. The guy is holding the stick upside down for god sakes!!

I think Thibault should of won

The Reverend Dan said...

Yeah, I don't really see how this won. There are far better masks out there.

Luongo? Please. Steve Valiquette's mask beats his every day of the week, and twice on Sunday.

Must be a lot of 'homer' votes going on... but all in all, great tournament!

I called it. Amazing.

Thanks Vancouver, I knew you could do it.

Considering you make up 85% or so of the visitors to this site.

I'll be waiting patiently for the new site, and the new logo and features Chris.

And so the whining begins.

I am not surprised that Luongo won, and I don't think it was all the Vancouver fans- after all I cheered for him all the way, and I am a die- hard Oilers fan.

But I certainly do believe there are better masks out there that didn't go that far in the tournament, NO NOT TOSKALA'S.

Can't wait to see that banner.

Now lets have a tournament for the best nhl team mascot.

Anonymous said...

flyersk27, we (the flyers) don't even have a mascot

Anonymous said...

It is obvious that there are more canucks fans here, because to say that Luongo's mask is the best is ridiculous

Anonymous said...

Still I think it'd be a fun tournament to laugh at all the funny looking mascots.

lame bunch of biased fans. I love bobby lu but seriously give me a break.

freez said...

the macot tourny idea was mine i gave it wen the second tourny began

go canucks looooooooou

freez said...

oh yah i am a canucks fan but i still lov luongos mask the best

I like the idea better than masks. A poll should be made to decide the next nhl tourney, but what other tourney options do you guys have in mind?

A boring and unoriginal mask wins it all? Nice.

Having something not related to a specific play would be best, cuts down on bias and and people whining about it being a popularity contest.

I think we should have an all time hockey sweater tournament.

Have two massive entries (one for each conference)and each team gets their own poll with all of their jersey sets since inception(jersey and logo, and thirds would be grouped together as their own set), then everyone votes for their favourite set from each team, then the winning set faces off against other winning team sets in a large 30 team tournament divided by conference, naturally (defunct teams could be optional).

That's what I think would be fun and would eliminate favouritism among specific players that represent their teams.

Cheers, Evil Patrick

i'm losing confidence in these polls... they always turn out with crappy winners. there are MANY other masks that should have won over his.

this poll was more of a popularity contest than anything... but since there is no way to weed out a biased decision when it comes to things like this, it's pointless to bother anymore.

Anonymous said...

i'm done with this site. these polls have lost all the fun value. the bias here is beyond control.

Evil Patrick (AKA Prince) can say people are whining and that it's not a popularity contest all he wants, but what makes his word difinitive? it is a popularity contest and there is obviously bias if a stupid ass mask like that managed to get past the second round. i would honestly vote for Osgood's mask over his

the people who say that it's not biased and complain about the people whining are the biased people who ruin polls like this.

i won't be coming back here anymore.

Congratulations, Vancouver. Someone from your Canucks finally won something. Now please get a hobby instead of swaying polls on someone's website. Thank you.

Sincerely,
The Rest of the Hockey-Loving Community.

and i'm not mad just because Miller or Thibault didn't win either... there are masks out there that i would honestly vote for over theirs... Patrick Roy's masks while he was with the Avalance were the best masks i've ever seen. and there are current mask's that are better too. but Luongo and Turco's are not any of them.

Mascots? Youppi!, without question. There's nothing too special about him, but the kids just love him. At the All-Star game in Atlanta, he was most definitely the most popular.

And besides, no other mascot in all of sports has been with two teams, let alone two teams of a different sport! And, he's the only mascot ever to have been ejected from a game(back with the Expos). Besides, the guy in the suit today is the same guy who first put on the suit when he was introduced with the Expos!

Check5ive said...

I think a tournament with mascots would be great, except for some of the teams that don't have one; Like my OILERS. But we do have a toungue froma mascot.

Last time I checked there weren't a 1000+ Canuck fans on the poll. And yes it is a popularity contest, there is no rules on how or why you vote the way you do so why come here and act like little children when a poll doesn't end up the way you want it. Out of all the polls so far the only one I agree with is the Habs logo and even that could have went to the Red Wings. I may have a different opinion on what is nice and what I like but I'm not so ignorant to think that my opinion is always going to be the majority. Grow up and enjoy the site for what is supposed to be.....FUN

Josh said...

Sabresownu, what makes your word different from Evil Patricks. If some people think Luongo's mask is better, then it's their opinion.

Anonymous said...

Isn't the islanders mascot sparky the dragon for all the sports teams in long island. I think he's cool and also the NJ Devil (the only two I've ever seen in person though).

Theres no point in arguing that this contest was biased because I am a Flyers fan and voted for Luongo and Turco every time and in the finals for Luongo more because I liked the colors and originality of it. I never posted a comment before today so there are probably other people not commenting that thought the same as me.

Well said jbiz14.

A mascot tourney would be cool. I'd probably vote for Sparky The Dragon and Slapshot.

I'm not satisfied with the poll either, but I'm not gonna whine about it. Luongo's mask isn't that good but thats my opinion. Let's all just move on and wait for the next tournament.

WHAT?! ZOMG!!!11!1!!! It's actually possible for someone's vote to be UNpopular/!?>!?!!

**smacks face in shock and horror**

Tim Thomas didn't win and since I'm a Bruins fan, that MUST mean it's a conspiracy, instead of ... ZOMG!!! ... a bunch of other people's opinions out in the world!!!!

**cries**

With that said, congratulations to Luongo -- at least he won SOMETHING.

Having his nose serve as the lower extremities for a lumberjack makes this the best goalie mask? I know there are a lot of Canucks fans that visit this site, but c'mon, does anyone seriously believe this is a fair and accurate representation of the best goalie mask out there? The Canucks have one of the worst uniforms and this mask is hideous.

Atownjacket said...

of course this tournament was purely popularity.

Well, at least we weren't voting on NFL helmet designs.

jesse111 said...

how about you put all the goalies that got beat in the tournament on the right side of the site, and we vote for the best one, and that one faces off against Luongo to see who wins.

Just a suggestion
