Wild Make Unveiling Date Official

All right, I know I promised to be all about Canada today, but official news beckons.

The Minnesota Wild have stated on their web site that their new Rbk EDGE uniforms will be publicly unveiled on September 7 — a date I first posted on Monday. They even released a teaser image of the new uniform. As expected, it's red, complete with a lace-up collar and everything.

They also have a countdown graphic on the right side of the page to when the jersey will be available for purchase. Think I have a case to sue them for stealing my idea? (No, I'm totally kidding.)

Anyway, there it is. Wild fans? Cause for pause? Or will this jersey kick all the other jerseys' asses?

I like it. I wish there wasn't that shoulder outline, but it doesn't bother me enough to really complain about it.

I hope they're still keeping the circle-logo.

As much as I like the old school look of the Wild's alternate jersey - which it looks like their new home jersey is based on - I don't like how a team with such a unique color (Dallas being the only other club with green jerseys) is switching to the most overused color in all of sports, let alone hockey.

Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Detroit, Montreal, New Jersey, Ottawa and technically Colorado and Phoenix all use some shade of red as their primary color! Now Washington and Minnesota are joining them to make it 11 teams - that's more than a third of the league!

While I agree that there are a ton of teams using red, that color green was terrible. Dull and dark on TV and still pretty drab in person. The red jerseys just stand out great. I would also love to see the green color changed to a brighter shade of hunter green, like the orange and green duck jersey fan art.

I don't like the piping around the shoulder and I don't understand why teams do that. Hopefully that's the extent of their modifications.

Rumor has it people snapped pictures of them on display today and they should be available tonight.

I like the red better

Love the old green unis. It reminds us of our previous team (North Stars), yet the different shade gave it it's own uniqueness.

Fun Fact: The official colors according to the team are forest green, iron range red, and harvest gold, all uniquely minnesotan.

If it is anything like their 3rd jersey from last year, it will be, hands down, the worst looking piece of trash in the League. It looks like they are adding that stupid piping around the shoulders too. Yuck.

If they worked out something based on their original jerseys, they'll pull it off a lot nicer.

I'll miss the old greens. I'll readily admit on TV and on video games it comes off a bit odd, but I always liked it in person, and it was the one I bought and wore proudly to games when I lived up in MN. I just hope they go with the wheat for the away jerseys to have at least one semi unique color. I know I'd buy a wheat over a red jersey any day and out of the 30+ jerseys of NHL, AHL and IHL jerseys I've amassed over the years I only have one white one and that was a gift. Either way I'm now stuck down in "Blueland" (ATL) with their different colored sleeves and lack of numbers on said sleeve due to ATLANTA running down the side. I seriously hope they ditch that.

I'm no Wild fan, but I think their jersey is going to kick everyone else's ass.

I have a feeling the top of the jersey you see isn't the real one....

Are any teams going to have a 3rd (alternate) jersey?

Anonymous said...

is it possible that the new jersey is on the skater in teh top right corner?

Anonymous said...

No, that skater has been on the team page for some time and is wearing the current 3rd jersey.

When you look at the left bottom detail, it says that the sleeve will be dark green. So it's the variation on the new Isles jersey.

You know what? People complain about RED being over used? How many teams use blue as their primary? Atlanta, Buffalo, Columbus, Edmonton, Nashville, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, San Jose, St Louis, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Vancouver...

That's 12. So stop complaining.

That knit collar sure looks old school.

Yeah, It's gonna look like the Isles jersey...

Anonymous said...

yup i think its gonna be just like the Isles jersey... red shoulders and body, and green sleeves with a red and white stripe

Forget the Wild... is it a bear or a lion or what is that thing? Lets just be the North Stars again. to hell with dallas. Lets get the "N" back on the jersey and stop with the Liger or what ever it is... Kelly Green and Gold ohhh thats expansion six baby.

Killer Site man love it

The reds are unique even if other teams use it.... they are old school n totally tight. The greens were also unique and if you're not from the area you would never understand the perceptions people have of the jerseys in the region. In my opinion the Wild know exactly what they are issuing with each jersey and thats why the fans love them. Also shows in the fact they have sold out all home games it the history of the franchise.

"Forget the Wild... is it a bear or a lion or what is that thing?"

Seriously? It's a wolf head, fairly obvious, especially with the connection between Minnesota and wolves...

I saw a picture of part of the road jersey. The main color is white. It's pretty much the same as the old white ones but it has some of the tanish color on the trim.

I prefer their third jersey to their originals, so I am looking forward to the unveiling.
The piping on the shoulder doesn't seem necessary, but who knows, maybe it will look great.
BTW, I know the Wild logo is based off many different animals(so it is not supposed to represent any one animal), but to me it definately looks like a bear. It has rounded ears and a shorter snout...how could it be a wolf or even a cat?
