Poll: Guide GFB's New Rebrand
By about a 100 votes, you guys chose the Buffalo Sabres as the subject of Matt's concept series, Rebranding The NHL. The point of my partnership with him is to allow you guys to guide the direction of his work since, after all, this is for the fans anyway. You guys know what you want and Matt knows how to make it look great.
So as he gets started on creating a new look for the Sabres, let him know what color scheme he should go with. Do you want the royal blue, yellow and white of the '70s? Should it be the new navy, yellow, silver and white of the Buffaslug era? Would you want to see something more along the lines of what John Slabyk introduced with navy, gold and white? Or did you love the "goathead" era of blue, red, silver and white?
Place your vote and then feel free to leave a comment about your decision. Get your friends to drop in and vote too! The more voices heard, the more accurate the results!
This poll will close at 6 PM a week from today on Tuesday, May 20. So get your votes in now.
If you're thinking Matt should go with an entirely new color scheme or you have other suggestions regarding logos, uniforms, or the general direction of this new design, you can even email him directly at gfb_designs@yahoo.com.
Happy voting!

ehhh. i dont agree with this poll..
i agree that the user should pick the team who gets re-vamped. but then after that it should be GFB's decision to make the jerseys and not limit his creativity to a color scheme we pick.
i think thats what i love most about his designs is the creativity put into it. and like the anaheim jerseys for example.
i dont know. maybe its just me, but i dont and wont want to vote in any more polls after this (regarding team re-vamps). it should be his idea.
Your votes aren't a mandate to Matt, merely a suggestion. In other words, he isn't tied to the final vote, but the results will help give him a better idea of what the fans are looking for. After all, the logo and uniform designs are more for the fans than anything else.
These polls will simply guide Matt in making the right choices for the people to whom his work will matter most. Don't worry about him losing any creativity. He's still got it and he'll be able to put it to better use after hearing the voice of the fans.
Thanks for voting!
I think I have to agree with "Cody bown?" one of the best things about GFB's designs were that he just did what he thought looked best.
One thing I'd like to see here is a nice third jersey. Like the red and black one in the Buffalo Head era.
And I have to agree about this poll. I did read your post, Chris, but I still find it unnessecary and taking away from the element of surprise. But I do understand where you're coming from, just a clash of opinions.
yeah this 'is for the fans' but him making a rad design, teasing us with a pixel, and then debuting something awesome is enough for me.
but. thats just me.
a blue home and away...and a red/black 3rd would be cool
When I think of a rebrand I think of a totally new identity. New colours, logos, the whole thing. The Sabres have nice colours, as many teams do, but if you're going to rebrand something, rebrand it. The Ducks stuff that he did is a good example of what I mean.
I think asking a poll for the colors is a bit much. Especially when we're getting into micro-managing the shades of blue, etc.
I say let Matt loose and let's see what he can do!
I feel like I need to address this.
When I rebrand the Canadians, Red Wings, Maple Leafs, Flyers, etc... is there any doubt on which colors I'll use? Does knowing which colors will be used subtract any from the rebrand itself when you see it? It doesn't in my mind...
I'm not leaking out initial sketches or anything.. I think you all will be just as suprised when I unveil the Sabres, just like any other rebrand...
And like Chris said, I'm not tied into any of these polls. They are simply a tool I use to see where the fans stand on the issue...
"Suggestion noted" -Homer Simpson.
Looking forward to the final result!
yeah matt (gfb), but i mean. if we voted 100% for red, pink, and khaki for buffalo, and you decided to go with vintage blues then really for those who voted it'd be like 'well what was the point of asking'/'what was the point of my vote'..
and frankly it would make the joining of you and nhltol kind of pointless if you didnt 'listen' to the polls. wouldnt it? because the joining is to make a more interactive thing for the fans, giving us a choice.
but more or less, if we're voting on multiple things, and the top choices dont get made, then personally id feel left out and somewhat cheated, especially if my vote went towards the winning one and it won by a huge margin. but im not voting on any of these but that is how id feel. we vote for the logos we loved, in hopes it would continue on to win the tournament. were voting for our favorite masks in hopes that they are named king. we're voting on the next team to be re-made to see what you have come up with. and then we're voting on colors just for something to do?
and when i was talking about leaking a pixel, i was referring to when you leaked a small pic of the NJ one. which built anticipation immensely.
there is no doubt in my mind that every jersey from here on out will rape. like most all of them did in the first place. and they all did without our input. i think i can speak for alot of us when i say 'we dont really need to voice our opinion' because frankly, its re-branding the nhl, its all you, and youre going to do what you want to do anyways. we never said what we wanted in the first place, and you still put out amazing jerseys. right?
and after seeing the buffalo jersey in the above post i dont think anything will top it, so you really have your work cut out for you.
There really only needed to be three choices:
1) blue and gold
2) red and black
3) other (new)
If #1 were chosen, the "blue" and "gold" to choose could be another poll or just Matt's choice (same goes for small detail colors like white, silver, etc.)
Right now, it is 86% for a blue/gold variant and 14% for black/red. Navy does seem to be winning over royal blue, though. Neither of these come as much surprise.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.
