2009 All-Star Logo Surfaces

Quick note tonight. An NHLToL reader ran across the 2009 NHL All-Star Game logo while browsing NHL.com today. Figured I'd share it with you guys. The game will take place in Montreal to celebrate the Canadiens' 100th anniversary.

I'm a fan. It seems a little odd to have the actual Habs logo in the design, though. Usually, the host team's logo is in the all-star logo but altered in some manner. Guess nobody wanted to alter the CH. Makes sense to me.

What are your thoughts on it?

I like it... pretty classy.

I think the jerseys should be the Habs home and away with east/west worked in slightly.... but that is only a dream

It's a little busy for me. NHL logo, CH logo, "100" logo, stars, All-Star Game, Montreal, 2009... it's just too much.

...and the ribbon seems odd juxtaposed against the swooping "100"

I like it, but am also surprised it isn't bilingual. What would be interesting for the league to do, if only this year for the All Star game, is to have Montreal play an NHL All Star Team like they used to do when they started the game. I know it would never happen now though.

This was on the NHL.com site, huh. It looks thrown together because it is. This could be made in five minutes, and I wonder if it was, and the official logo will be made at a later time.

And to daryl, the old all-star format was the Stanley Cup Champions versus the league All-Stars. It was just usually the Canadiens who happened to be league champions, and ahem, it isn't out of the question this year I suppose.

I like that format too, but the ease of travel and the significantly greater number of players in the league have made it obsolete. I also like the outside game concept. One idea that I have been toying with, is the idea that at the end of the calendar year, the teams are somehow split up into two camps, and not by conference lines. You could, for example, have a draft of teams, or use the odd versus the evenly ranked teams. The end result is that a unique mix of east and west players play together, different each year, AND more importantly this opens up the chance to award points in the game.

It is likely too crazy to actually get the BOG to agree, but I would like the game to mean something. Other than the sentimental value, which I never have appreciated anyway.
