NBC, Update Your Graphics!

The second period of the Winter Classic has just begun and as a live television director, I have to take issue with some of what's been going on during the NBC telecast. For one thing, the graphics are out of date!

This site is dedicated to NHL logos so naturally my biggest nitpick has to do with said logos in broadcast graphics.

I photographed my TV screen earlier this afternoon to demonstrate my point. Of the 16 logos seen on this particular graphic, a quarter of them are WRONG! From left to right, the Sharks, Blue Jackets, Bruins and Lightning all got new logos this season. NBC apparently opted to ignore that fact and just use last year's graphics.

NBC, update your damn graphics!

The abominations only continue but for the sake of sparing you guys, I won't go on about it. But just know that I'm very disappointed in the disrespect of American network television toward an obviously huge moment in the sport of hockey.

End rant.

Great catch. At least you can see the game. In Indianapolis, they decided to move the game to their weather channel. I hate this town!

What do you expect out of NBC? Do you think they really take the NHL seriously?

If you have any more to show, show us a few more of those! Go on a rant if you want, some of us will read it :P

Umm, just wondering why you cant comment on the latest poll?

Yeah, that's pretty lazy. You wouldn't see them do that with the NFL or MLB or NBA. But they actually make money from and care about those leagues.

Do you guys get CBC or TSN on satelite down there like we get a bunch of your channels up here?

it's not just on NBC
they do it in Canada too
if you go to tsn.ca (probably the best hockey site besides nhl.com)
and go to the team pages of boston and the canucks, then they have last years logos too
i've seen that happen on thescore a couple times too and once on sportscentre
and here in ottawa, barely anyone has the right sens logo

Sorry, that's fixed.

I don't have satellite so I'm not sure. Maybe someone else can answer that for you. I know I can watch TSN-aired games via Center Ice on cable but that's the extent of it.

Okay, you asked for it, but I'll give you the abbreviated version: sticky zoom trigger on the wide action cam (wtf?), smudgy lens on same cam (I don't care if it's snowing, this is NBC!), Bob Costas may be small but you don't have to make him look small on TV (apple box!). There's more but it gets technical and I think I'm just overly critical because I work in live TV.

Thanks for the comments, all.

I flipped over to NBC from CBC a few times and noticed that things seemed a lot darker there for some reason, too. That might have just been me though, as my cable signal isn't the best sometimes.

There were many elements of NBC's broadcast that had me groaning, if not outright pissed off.

Sadly, I'm a DirecTV subscriber, and I don't get CBC through my package, but by all accounts, it was a much better presentation.

NBC has to dumb down their presentation as much as possible to the point of killing what little is left of the NHL's credibility.

At least that's how me, a hockey fan, sees their broadcasts.

The Ducks logo is wrong as well.

NBC continues to embarass itself trying to cover a sport they know nothing about. Their Winter Classic coverage was truly awful.

Most sites have the changes though even ESPN has the old Canucks logo everywhere.

oh yeah and it's not as bad as canada embarassed itself when the raptors played the hornets
out side in huge light it said TORONTO RAPTORS vs. CHARLOTTE HORNETS
pathetic

The habs logo is upside down. I think that's the worst mistake.
