i'm kind of second guessing myself on my own vote but since i found out that the "I" in Islanders points where Nassau Coliseum is located in Long Island, I'm starting to love it
but i still don't think i should've voted for the isles over the habs
even though the top part of the C looks like a penis, i still think it's a pretty good simple logo

It's not really accurate or fair to be putting an original six franchise up against an expansion team, regardless of which wave of expansion it might be. Line up the orig six against each other. MON vs. TOR is a much more pivotal battle. No offense to the Islanders. I voted for them, by the way.

I know this is only based on the logos but the Islanders don't deserve any votes after that monstrosity of a jersey was released.

This is about logos, you guys, and truly, it doesn't matter where you were seeded. My Calgary Flames were pitted against the Black Hawks, which supposedly have the greatest logo in all of sports. Fact of the matter is, if the Flames lose to them, it wouldn't matter whether the Flames lost now or in the WCF. Whoever has the best logo just has it, plain and simple.

well your "flames" were seeded way too high.

anyway. both VERY classic logos. i have to give the nod to the canadiens, in respect to pollock.

I voted for Montreal. I don't know why, and now I'm sick to my stomach.

I'm sorry but this is ridiculous, the canadians logo is so plain and stupid, the Islanders logo with the Y forming a stick and picturing Long Island, the place the Islanders represent, showing pride in where they come from seems obvious to me

i totally agree with that comment

Unfortunately, the Habs have a disadvantage too in this tournament. This logo is about the same since the 10's or 20's. He just have some minor upgrades since then. The people are identified by this logo with a lot of history and glory. No other logo could replace him because, for the people, it will not be the Habs anymore if he change. He will probably never change then he will never be totally awesome.

How were the flames seeded too high? Is there even a method to the madness of this seeding? If so, why was Florida one of the FIRST logos to be condsidered? How can there even BE significant meaning to the seeding of logos?

Just to clarify: There seeding has no significance. There wouldn't even be seeding except that I needed to pair up logos in order to create this tournament. They might as well be random.

And as for the complaint over Original Six teams facing expansion teams, it's not about which logo has been around longer. It's about which one is the best symbol for its team.

More to the point, this is only the first of five rounds. Wouldn't you rather see Original Six teams face off in later rounds as opposed to the first? — assuming they are "better."

Anyway, that's my feeling. Thanks to all of you for reading!

*Habs*

OLE!!! OLE OLE OLE!!! OLEE!! OLEE!!

Im not showing any bias because i think the isle's have one of the ugiliest logos in the game. Anyways Habs are clean and classic and should win in a slaughter.

Both logos are old school and classic, which is great in today's unnessesarily trendy NHL. But even that the Islander is classic (and i like it for that reason), the Habs is even moreso.

From a purely graphic design standpoint, Montreal KILLS the Islanders logo. NYI's logo is a dated and cluttered mess. Montreal's is simple, bold, instantly recognizable, and hasn't changed in ages.

Canadiens for me.

well at least its not Fishsticks.

Habs over Isles
Tradition over 80s.

How can anyone compare N.Y.I to the Habs logo.Habs logo is known worlwide. nyi logo keeps switching every year, those who vote for the islander must be under 12 dont know anything about tradition.

i'm not sure who told the first poster that the 'i' in islanders points to where NVMC is located on LI, but they are very wrong. NVMC is in Uniondale, which is wayyyyy further east on the island than where the 'i' is pointing.

Actually, the pointing "I" theory is correct. If you look at the map closely it doesn't represent all of L.I. Only Nassau and Suffolk counties are shown. Which create the political map of LI. Queens and Brooklyn although physically are part of LI they are not considered so, because they are buroughs of NYC. So the I would be the exact spot of Uniondale where NVMC is. Also i'd like to point out that the Islanders colors are that of Nassau County's as well. You can see it on the county flag. The original name for the island was actually called Nassau by the Dutch after William of Nassau from the House of Orange. Where the county as well as the Isles retrieved their colors.

I like the Habs however I have to say their logo blows. It certainly is a classic but it lacks a whole lot of creativity. I voted for the Islanders simply because it appeals to me a bit more despite that putrid orange. Although the Habs logo lacks originality and creativity, it still beats the Leaf logo by a mile.

Habs logo is simply perfect.
IMO, only a few teams have achieved such a level of perfection: Montreal, Boston, and New Jersey.
Some others are close though...
