Mailbag: You Can Stop Sending These Now

All right, I've said I don't want to get bogged down in the whole video game screen grab thing, but I think popular demand almost requires this one. I've gotten about a dozen emails in the last 24 hours with the following images attached or linked.

From what I've been told, what you're seeing in these pictures is a page from the official Xbox magazine — a yet-to-be released issue I'm assuming. Apparently, the picture above shows a game between the Coyotes and Sharks (a completely new San Jose design we've yet to be treated to officially) in EA Sports' NHL 08. The picture you see here to the left, although blurry, supposedly shows the Oilers and Canucks.

I can't speak to the veracity of these pictures nor really anything else with regard to them. But I just wanted to post them in the hopes that my awesome readers would stop sending me them.

Once again, I don't mind you guys sending in screen grabs from video games, but don't expect me to post them too often. If we're going to see official new jerseys, I'd prefer photos. Thanks everyone!

Well that has to be the Canucks, no one else has Green and Blue togethor. Looks a lot like the old "C-Stick" jerseys they had for a 3rd jersey, could be that the character is wearing a throw back in the game, not what they currently would be wearing.

I think it's interesting (and horrible) that the Oilers jersey has that God-awful piping on it.

While the Canucks could just be an "alternate" jersey selected (which is a mainstay of recent NHL games), and the Oilers is far, far, far too blurry in that photo to be of any use to us...

I would put *money* and a lot of it, on that being the new Sharks look. Why? For one, the colors are in line with what they've released so far. Two, the Sharks have never had a similar looking jersey in all their years in the league so it can't be an "alternate", and three, it would be next to impossible to get a fan-based rendering into the game as a screenshot seeing as how it's still in the hands of EA and not released.

The only thing that would make this all not be the Sharks' new look is if that whole post, the magazine and screenshots themselves, were all an elaborate mock-up / hoax.. and really, that would be an awful lot of work just for something like this.

99.44% chance this is the Sharks' new away jersey. I'm putting it on the line.

these have to be fake. Why the hell would the angle be so low like that on the picture and why would the second one be so blurry. I am calling bullshit on this.

Is it me or the Coyotes seem to have dropped the bottom lines of their uni's?
The Oilers is to blurred, hard to give an opinion.
RCAP238, like you said, it's hard to understand why the user took the pictures in that angle and so blurry for the second one. But it would be an hard job to do a fake like that. I don't know what to think.

Someone from EA Sports said in an interview that all new jerseys are currently locked. So it's the old jerseys that are found in the screenshots.

Not an old Shark's jersey, that's for sure. The Sharks have never had one like it. The old original ones didn't have shoulder patches, and didn't cut off at the waist, and didn't have orange. heh.

They may be locked, but it looks like someone unlocked one to me.

It's another waiting game, of course, but there's just no solid reason that the sharks jersey there *isn't* the new look.

That's not the oilers uniform BTW, that's the hurricanes with the piping.

That is not a hurricanes jersey it is definitely roloson with those edmonton colored tps pads

It's come to my attention that NHL08 incorporates a very extensive Team Creation component, with a full color palette for uniform creation.

So there is a chance that someone at EA Sports made their *own* San Jose jersey for that screenshot.

Doesn't that just throw everything tipsy turvy? lol.

"Someone from EA Sports said in an interview that all new jerseys are currently locked. So it's the old jerseys that are found in the screenshots."

I'll confirm it. I'm the dude from EA Vancouver. Jerseys are locked.

To Artymous: The original jerseys did have a shoulder patch. I'm staring at it right now as we speak. It's the fin through the wave. Although that isn't the original jersey, I just wanted to clear things up.

To add to my above post - those are the vintage canucks jerseys.

I'm also 99.9% confident those are NOT the new sharks jerseys.

To EA Vancouver dude:

What I meant by shoulder patch is the colored bit, with the black outline.

There is also orange in there.

So either someone got it unlocked, or someone made their own jersey with the creator.

It's NOT an official old San Jose jersey, so what *IS* it? hmmmmm?

Is it just me... or do those supposed SJ jerseys look a lot like the Manitoba Moose jerseys?

Have to say that's Carolina's uniform, may be Roloson's pads, but the Hurricanes new uniform is all over the place now. EA has the uniforms up in their screenshots, complete with the red piping. these are bigger images, and no flash needed.

If you go to ebgames/Gamestop, and look at their coming soon section, you will see the box of eric stall in the new uniforms. :)

BTW, if you go to TeamXBox, you will see two completely different white maple leaf uniforms on the very first gallery page for nhl 08. Hmmm...

Dude look at the "Roloson Pic" at the bottom of the image that's on top. It is an Oilers jersey with blue piping that is exactly the same as the piping on Florida's and Nashville's unis. It's NOT Carolina.

"Hockey purists looking at videos of NHL 08 and wondering where the all-new Reebok NHL jerseys are will be pleased to note that they are in the game but, due to licensing issues with the NHL, they won't be immediately available. Instead, once all of the NHL teams have introduced their new-look uniforms, a code will be provided on the EA Sports web site that, once entered into the game, will unlock the new uniforms for use in your matches."

I've been following NHL 08 for a while and the game will have all new jerseys but you have to put a code in to unlock them. EA Sports will give the codes when the team releases the jerseys.

These are obviously the team jerseys because EA Sports gave copies too many magazine companies to give the a reveiw about the same time the game comes out (september). These all look like real jerseys and when the teams release them, you will see.
