Maple Leafs Unveil New Uniforms!

UPDATE (6:37 PM): Normally I wouldn't put an update at the top of a post, but this one is the exception. Just got a hold of an excellent photo of the new jerseys that should leave no doubts.

Darcy Tucker, Tomas Kaberle and Jason Blake model the brand new Rbk EDGE jerseys for the Toronto Maple Leafs. You can read the original post below. Thanks to Jimmy who also linked to this image in the comments!

-----

Today the Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their new Rbk EDGE jerseys. We're getting our first look via screen grabs of the Leafs TV broadcast. Not impressive quality but it'll do until photos are out there.

Plain is the word here. I expect many of you will have that to say. And could there be more blue? You can't really see the socks in this image, but here's hoping they aren't solid blue too. More to come when I get it.

UPDATE (5:11 PM): I mentioned that I hoped the socks wouldn't be solid blue. Thankfully, as you can see in this video still, they are not. The traditional three stripes can be found down there.

You can click on the picture to the left to enlarge it for a better look. (I think it's funny Kaberle and Blake are wearing tennis shoes with their uniforms. But the little things make me laugh.)

I'm still waiting for additional photos, but I'm adding more video stills to the Rbk EDGE photo gallery right now.

  1. Boring! It's one thing to maintain an old time hockey type look but the Leafs over did it the other way. It looks like an old practice jersey.

  2. wow, no secondary logo either! thats brutal!

  3. As a guy who bleeds blue and white... I've never been so hurt in my life. These are by far... the worst in the league so far.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ugh.

The piping at the cuffs is an interesting touch though -- do any other teams have this? It's not something you'd ever see in a game (except during a fight, I guess) ...maybe a touch to make these more attractive for fans to wear?

  5. Too much blue. I missing very much the white stripes at the bottom of the jersey. The previous jersey was far better.

    ReplyDelete
  6. If it wasnt for the 2 stripes on the sleeves they would look like practice jerseys! Maybe we will like them when we see them on the ice...

  10. Boring. At least they saved me $100+ on NOT having to buy a new jersey this season. I was hoping they'd use their third jersey as their primary but I guess they wanted to make the jersey as plain as possible. Well, at least it isn't as bad as Dallas or Vancouver.

  11. As a Non-Leaf fan, I will ay in all honesty that I like them - they are crisp and not overdone like some of the jerseys out there. I think these are classic jerseys and there wasn't much fiddling with tradition.

    ReplyDelete
  12. There is the video on http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/

    - The socks are no fully blue.

Skip ahead to 16:45 - Tucker, Blake, Kaberle, Pogge and, a few other Marlies.

  13. The socks have three thick stripes on them, and those have 2 very narrow stripes on either side.

No stripes around the waistline makes me a sad panda.

  14. are u guys kidding me?? ya i'll admitt i was a tad disappointed, i would have liked to see some more creativity ...but come on here, a disappointment from what?? our previous jerseys -- add two lines at the bottom, and add back the TML (which nobody was crazy about to begin with) These jerseys are NOT that ugly and overall didnt change a whole lot ...so i understand if u hated the previous jerseys as well, but you'd be contradicting yourself to say u loved the old ones and hate these ones.

oh and to those of you saying worst in the league so far!??!
have u guys seen some of the others out there?? (Islanders, panthers)??

anyways.. to sum things up, all im saying is.. THESE ARE NOT THAT DIFFERENT FROM LAST YEARS jerseys, so cry all u want about the lack of creativity (frankly, i wouldnt have wanted them to go overboard anyways), but do not cry about the fact that they are "ugly" and certainly not "the worst in the league"

  15. Is McDonald's spnsoring the team this year or something? What;s up with the Golden Arches on the Right Chest of the White Jersey???

God.... my Red, White and Silver concept for Toronto at least had a little more strength than these.....

    ReplyDelete
  16. I love them for the same reason why everyone here hates them. No shitty secondary logo. No kiddy looking vertical stripes or piping. Not overdone ...aka "plain". I'm happy they didn't make a mess of it just to appease people who need a valium. I'm glad it bores all of you. Go and purchase a Ducks jersey.

    ReplyDelete
  17. that would be the MARLIES sponsor.. as they were last year too

Those are my two favorite RBK EDGE jerseys.

I like these Leafs jerseys, I'm just sad to see Jason Blake wearing them.

  19. Changing my mind. I didn't realize the white one was Marlies uni the Leafs should steal that one....way better

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Zooch: The Leafs road whites do look like the Marlies, except they don't have a shoulder logo (or Ronald's). The Marlies blues look the same as the Leafs blues.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I was hoping for 1970 Leafs Jerseys..the one that has the white. Those are my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  22. the white looks better than the blue because of the blue shorts....from this picture it looks like tucker is wearing PJs

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm disappointed that they got rid of the horizontal stripes. Without them, the jersey looks too plain.

    ReplyDelete
  24. i wanna see a close up of the numbers... did they completely get rid of the silver? even on the numbers?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I was at the press conference and saw the jersey up close. They got rid of the silver around the numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I think they are nice and simple. Very classy. Unlike 90% of the other jerseys in the NHL. It's hillarious to watch the rest of you cry over it. I'll enjoy them...but I'll get my jollies laughing at the rest of you folks.

    ReplyDelete
  27. After watching the video, I feel a lot better about them. In the picture it looks like Tucker is wearing jammy-jams.

  28. Hey Chris, a cool feature of this site would be a little voting about: rate the new Rbk jersey's from best to worse.

It would be a cool feature. Of course Avalanche and Panthers would be the worse ones, but people would tell.

For the Toronto Unis, remember that is the Maple Leafs. They have history, and they have sharp jersey's that reflect their roots. Great one.

I'm a step ahead of you there. It's all coming!

When all of the uniforms have been unveiled, I'm going to do reviews for all 30 teams. Part of the review will include a poll that will be left open indefinitely for readers to rate and rank all the new sweaters.

So stay tuned for that. I'll let you guys know all the details as soon as I've worked them out. Gotta give you a reason to keep coming back, right?

Thanks for all the comments, everyone!

  30. Hey Chris you can add this to the LEAFS pictures, its a good one

  31. Man, those Marlies jerseys are pretty solid.

The blue blob next to it needs work, though...

    ReplyDelete
  32. Terrible!!!!!!!!!! So bland, and boring. Why get rid of the stripes on the bottom? What do the practice jerseys look like? Or are they just trying to save money by not having a difference?

I'll never own one of these RBK jerseys, and based on some comments from players I've read I expect them to die off, three seasons...tops.

200 bucks for a blue jersey? If they wanted to give the jersey a classy look go to the third jersey from the last few years adapted to the RBK, that I could deal with the jersey would be okay, though the RBK jersey is god awful!

These are like those crappy t-shirts you can buy that have the logo and a number on the back with a name...no stripes...I hate them possibly more than the 80's jersey..I was so happy in 92 when they changed it...this has to go!

  33. Just saw you posted my pic, if I see anything else out there, i'll post links to the pics in here unless there is any other way of me contacting you..

    ReplyDelete
  34. Um, so what was the wait for? These jerseys are too damn sparse. Yes I know the only real difference is no stripe at the bottom, but wow what a difference it makes.

    Terrible effort.

  36. They look like practice jerseys. Would it have killed them to put some kind, any kind, of striping at the bottom? It's like they woke up at noon today and realized they had to debut a jersey and just slapped something together in 10 minutes and hoped it would fly.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey Chris,

Don't forget in your voting pool to separate a white away jersey than a dark (home). I like the away lightning, but the home one is not my style, for example. Keep the job like that!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hey all,

I think the only real way to let the Maple Leafs know that this jersey is uninspired and lacking the stripe, and that it looks like it was just thrown together today, it to go flood them with e-mail about how disapointing this look is, and if you're like me you dont intend to buy one, and you'll stay with last years jersey.

    http://mapleleafs.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NHLPage&id=12715

Fan mail is where to send it. It's just so boring...I dont get it, the Red Wings, Canadiens, Bruins, Rangers all got it right..I'm sure the Hawks will...but the leafs yet again drop the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I just want to agree with Jimmy -- these are basically practice jerseys with a couple of stripes on the arms...

what'd they do, let one of Ferguson Jr's kids design them?

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't understand why everyone is hating on these uniforms. I'm a lifelong Leafs fan, and these look simple and classy. Yeah, a horizontal stripe would be nice, especially on the blue one, but it's not horrible without it. The fact that the shoulder logo is gone and that the silver trim is gone are both huge improvements.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It could be worse. You could have got something as butt ugly as those Vancouver sweaters or the Dallas ones if that pic of Turco is accurate. Be happy that tradition didn't get messed with.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Leafs got it right. Nothing wrong with those jerseys. Sometimes plain is good. They stayed with tradition, like Montreal, Detroit, and Boston, so far. It was the right thing to do. They can get all wacky next year with a 3rd jersey for all you freaks who need crazy styling.

    ReplyDelete
  43. This doesn't bother me. I'd have loved seeing the old 11 point leaf logos on the shoulders again, but it's not bad.

Also, if you think it looks too much like a practice jersey, watch the videos of them moving around. It looks much better in motion than in stills.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's a hell of a lot of blue on the homes. A simple horizontal stripe at the bottom could have broken up the flood of blue and looked so much better.
I'm not a Leafs fan at all, so I don't really care. I was a fan of their jerseys, though.

    ReplyDelete
  45. AMAZING!

It's true that you can't please anyone.

A lot of people have bitched at all the new jerseys for being too different, too wild, too crazy.

Now, with the Leafs, we're hearing: too simple, too blue, too normal, too plain, too boring.

I like 'em. They look fine.

    ReplyDelete
  46. No complaints.... but no complments either.. obviously with it being the Leafs they weren't going to go nuts with this jersey. it's exactally what i expected. but for all you people who think it's to plain, can you imagine the leafs in calgary or the islanders new jerseys? now that's something for the "just to freak you out"

    ReplyDelete
  47. I hate these uniforms so much, I know the uniforms do not make the team, but they will never win another Stanley Cup wearing that Harold Ballard designed Leaf. And now they got rid of the bottom stripes. Jeez, why couldn't they just return to the third jerseys (circa 1964). Look at all the other original six teams keeping their classic look. So typical of the Leafs to screw it up.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Would you expect MLSE to make a bold move? All these guys do is play it safe. They have no vision. I love the leafs but we have the worst owners in the league and THE STUPIDEST FANS IN SPORTS who continue to buy inflated tix. I got news for you morons there's NO CUP COMING TO T.O. they dont have the talent, skill, or drafting ability to even make the playoffs. and even if they do make it they will get destroyed by ACTUAL CONTENDERS in the first round. Hockey fans know this. Most leaf fans don't

    ReplyDelete
  49. how sweet would those have been just with the 35 point leaf patches on the shoulders

    ReplyDelete
  50. Even if they added white accents to the bottom of the jersey and the collar of the blue one and added blue accents in the same area for the white, it would add a little bit more to these jerseys.

    ReplyDelete
  51. They're far from the worst out there - the Original Six look well on their way to being the only teams to remain virtually unscathed from RBK's aesthetic genocide - but they look like they didn't have time to add decorative striping before the unveiling date and just said 'screw it'. Vancouver/NYI/Buffalo have jerseys that are way too busy, these aren't busy enough.

    ReplyDelete
  52. As a die hard habs fan, I must say that the Leafs could've done a little better for their jersey. It does look like a practise jersey actually. I'm a traditionalist, I don't like to see too much change but a little more wouldn't have hurt!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow! These are great.

What is everyone complaining about. Have a look back at the history of the Leafs jersey. What has made them great is their consistancy.

    CHECK OUT THE 1930'S UNIFORMS
    http://www.nhluniforms.com/1930s/Images/MapleLeafs5.gif

To any Leaf fan that has said that this jersey is the ugliest by far must then think that their teams look is the worst the NHL has ever seen.

    Dumb dumb dumb

    ReplyDelete
  54. I love the minimal design. Clean! They will look awesome on the ice.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I was hoping for something comparable to their recent 3rd jersey. At first sight I wasn't big on this one but that's normal, by November we'll be so used to it anyway. If I was asked to make a couple of changes I'd add a little more blue to the white jersey by adding a shoulder coloring like Montreal and Boston, I'd dump the trim from the numbers and add a white vertical stripe to the pants.

As is, this uniform will look far better than the overdone projects out there this year.

Really though, is it really necessary for Rbk to have the stupid looking tails on their jerseys, it's an eye sore for all the white bottomed designs.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't know why they don't get rid of the Ballard Leaf, do you really want to remeber the guy who destroyed the history Con Smythe built. I'd be keeping my distance from that sucker as much as I could. I still like the old old school leaf.

    ReplyDelete
  57. The most interesting thing to me, is that in the first photo of the post, all three are wearing different pants. And, to top it off, Tucker is wearing CCM. What's up with that?

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wow, it seems like it's either one extreme or the other with these new jerseys (too over the top or too plain). These are really boring in my opinion. Some sort of horizontal striping at the bottom of the jersey would have jazzed things up a little bit.

    ReplyDelete
  59. HAHA... I can't believe the Leafs will be wearing practice jerseys for real games!

Actually, they play real games as if they're just skating around in practice, so maybe it's fitting!!

Enjoy another 40 cup-less years Leaf fans!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Fantastic! Now I can finally afford a (nearly) authentic jersey for my kid. I'm off to the dollar store to find a long sleeved blue t-shirt and an iron-on Maple Leaf logo.

    He'll never know the difference.

    Way to go Leafs!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. As a Leaf fan I know I'm biased, but although I was expecting something flashier I am really happy with the jersey.

For those of you who wanted major changes ( see Vancouver ) come and talk to me in 5 years and see which jersey still looks good...

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hey Chris !

    Love your site buddy !

Another vote that would be nice is to compare jerseys from last year and this, this for every team...

lots of future after the logos tournament !

    ReplyDelete
  63. at least vancovers jerseys look like they are ment to be played in a game, not a plain white/ blue practice jersey with two stripes on it. I thought that the old ones where boring, but now i really see wat is boring. I have seen minor hockey jerseys that blow these out of the water. oh well leafs jerseys reflect how they play, shitty.

    ReplyDelete
  64. as a huge leafs fan i am impressed with what they have done with the new RBK jersey. Its okay for all those southern American teams to have "freaky" designs because they dont have tradition and most of the fans just want something flashy and most dont understand the history and importance of the hockey jersey. As long as the leafs unis are blue and white and they didnt change the best logo in the NHL, im happy. I was very afraid after i seen brutal jerseys like Dallas. Do they know they are playing in the NHL and not in the NCAA? But the main thing is there are no drastic changes to the leafs unis and i am going to buy one the first chance i get

    ReplyDelete
  65. Not much to change for the Leafs unless they want to go radical, ditch history and opt to go Red, White and Silver.

    ReplyDelete
  66. U....G.....L.....Y These Jerseys Got no Alibi, they ugly!, Hey, Hey they UGLY!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Sooo.. those are the practice jerseys when do the game Game jerseys get released... ohhh those are the game Jerseys ewhhhh

Well I though Vancouver's was Ugly congrats Toronto on even making our jerseys look good.. EWHHH thats Awful..

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am disappointed, it is too plain, much like a practice jersey. The body stripes and shoulder patches should be retained. Hopefully the third jersey will not be similarly oversimplified.

    ReplyDelete
  69. i wouldve appreciated the new leaf jerseys if they brought the old school 35-point leaf logo back for both jerseys and kept the 2 bottom stripes at the waistline. other than that, as a dedicated leaf fan, i cant possibly picture the leafs winning the stanley cup with those practice jerseys on.
