If you think the logo looks familiar, look no further than the old red third jersey. Personally, as a non-Sabres fan, I was always of the opinion that the crossed swords would make an excellent primary logo for that team. It could permanently relegate the buffalo to the shoulder where it belongs. Of course that's coming from a Lightning fan
Our designer also came up with an alternate uniform to go with these two. I'm afraid it goes a little overboard with the stripes though. I think we've past the point where it might've looked aesthetically pleasing. As far as the colors, I don't think the blue looks that bad. I think the current blue is a little darker than it needs to be.
Any thoughts, Sabres fans? I know you hate the slug. Is this the way to go? How do you feel now about the red-black-silver days of the late '90s?
Also, I just thought I'd throw in this nugget. One fan came up with this concept for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Check out that penguin! That one, I'm afraid of. I'm pretty sure it's culled from a minor league logo and it's a little cartoony. Penguins fans, would this be a travesty? Would it be that bad to make a return to the old '90s penguin? Should I stop bothering you and deal with the one you've got?

haha as a Pens fan I'd say it would be a travesty. We won the cup with the skating penguin, and from what I remember everybody in Pittsburgh hated the old pigeon logo..altho I would like to see us ditch the vegas gold go back to yellow, and just go back to the actual jerseys we won the cup with. However, that is just wishfull thinking.
ReplyDeleteThe Original Crest from the cup days. I know you hate it but it is the mark of the team. That stupid Pigeon logo was awful and this dark "vegas" gold really should be done away with. I agree with the guy above, although i think they should keep current design and just change pack to steeler/pirate yellow.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the first person on all points. As a life-long Pittsburgher and Penguins fan, I love the skating penguin, and I'm hard-pressed to find too many people (if any) who don't. I don't mind the Vegas gold, but I think it's a little too flavor-of-the-week, and it has long worn out its welcome.
ReplyDeletePittsburghers don't just hate the pigeon for aesthetic reasons - we hate it because it's the crest of our scoundrel ex-owners: Howard Baldwin and Roger Marino. I wouldn't mind seeing it replaced as our secondary logo by a rendition of the city's official seal.
If you ask me, i'd like to see the Pens return to blue. Screw the pirates and the steelers. I'm from pittsburgh and have lived there all my life. the pens are the only team that really matters in pittsburgh. the rooneys are stupid and the nuttings suck. anyway, i was surprised, really surprised that the pens never introduced a blue third jersey in the late 90s or after the lockout. but the skating penguin forever.
ReplyDeleteLet it go already. The Sabres "concepts" which were mentioned never had an ounce of credibility. The new logos are hear to stay. I personally don't have a problem with the new uni's. Given the choice, I'd like to see something with the new style Buffalo in a crest with crossed swords. I honestly don't see that ever happening.

ReplyDeletethose pens concepts look terrible in my opinion. i am a fan of the skating penguin, and the vegas gold, (i can't think of any other nhl team with the color, and i like the originality, if thats a word). the pittsburgh teams are the only teams from 1 city with the same color scheme anyways, or close to for that matter, so i see no need for the pens to match the stillers and buccos. the cup year jersey's are beautiful, and would love to see a rendition of those, but what i would really love to see would be a third blue jersey, that either has Pittsburgh diagonal across the chest or a design incorporating the skating penguin.

ReplyDeleteThe jersey design is nice... I can live with that. But drop that stupid Chilly Willy penguin and the "Pittsburgh" and "Penguins" written underneath the point of the collar. It's needless and just looks silly. But overall, I could get behind that jersey design.
