Canucks Unveil New Colors, Uniforms!
Take your first looks now. I'll have more in a little while. These images are from the streaming online video of the launch that took place this afternoon at GM Place in Vancouver.
They didn't need the word "Vancouver" above the logo. It would've looked MUCH better without that. The return to green and blue is great and the sleeves and everything look awesome, the back of the jersey too. Its just that wordmark on the front that looks hideous.
I think they look great! If you think they are awful lets hear why. Having "Vancouver" over the logo is a bit tacky but otherwise it's a fairly clean jersey and not boring at all. Well done
Choke me with a spork. I like everything EXCEPT the huge ass "VANCOUVER" on the front of the jersey. It's just too busy! What were they thinking with that? I like the return to the classic colors, but Goddess is the city name killing it 100%
sad. such a missed opportunity. the word "vancouver" on the front is amateurish. they could have had the city's name under the nhl crest à la nfl and it would have been great.

OUCH! I think they should've learned from the Seattle Seahawks: That blue + That Green + Totem pole-esque logo= ugly uniforms.
I don't mind the blue and green combo, but there is way too much of that green. also I'm pretty sure people are going to be smart enough to know that its vancouver without it having to say "VANCOUVER"

That's bulls***. They took the vintage jersey, put the orca on it and wrote vancouver over that? Holy s*** how stupid are these people? The horizontal stripes look like crap with the C. It's way too crowded on the front with the stripes, the orca, and Vancouver. Horrible job Canucks.

Ridiculous…colours are good but I know where they play. If you are going to put the name in…at least make it discreet like New York or Dallas. Whatever happened to simple and clean?
in fact, i was nervous about the vancouver thing, and i thought that they might put "canucks" at home, but the fact they left both of them saying VANCOUVER, i love it. its not about the image, its about the pride, this is who we are, this is what stands out the most, and never forget it, we're not about an image, we're about a single word/community, which we all make up. vancouver is part of our logo...
I feel much better now about Ottawa's new unis. How long has Vancouver been in the NHL? Do they really think that hockey fans don't know who they are? The composite logo on this site would have been much better.
whoever said that its the players that make the team... correct but you need a decent marketing campaign to have the money to buy the players... salary cap or not you still need money, and this is one hell of a way to start out
This is to remind the Canucks fans who they are chearing for. I LOVE the colors!! Hate the logo and the Vancouver on it. O well at least its not a flaming 'C' I wonder it the flamers will put 'Flamers' over top their logo??
I like them better then the other green and blue ones they where showing. And the writing of Vancouver above the logo doesn't go good. They didnt really need it. And why didn't they have Luongo show them of with the others. But overall I give them a 7/10. Go Canucks Go
R I D I C U L O U S ! What was the designer thinking when he plastered VANCOUVER above the logo!!!?? Kinda disappointed as a hardcore Nucks fan. If you look at the C on Naslund's jersey, you can see that it is soooo high up, god, all that hype for nothing.
The jersey was shit when you enter the league, you then had 4 chances to make it better...yet you choose to make it worse. By far gonna be the worse jerseys in the league.
ya right flames jerseys will be waayyyyyyy better, and guaranteed they wont say "Calgary" accross the chest.... hahahaha, Im gonna find it hard not to laugh the whole game on Oct 6 when "Vancouver" is in town
Awefull, I just dont understand how un hockey team let go such a plain and hideous jersey. For the Canucks the identity problem stays... As a graphic artist i understand the error. THEY MIX EVERYTHING... to make a pizza of all those bad design the Canucks add all those years. There is no contrast at all, i just dont understand and hope for the canucks fan this horror wonnt stay....

Lets get something cleared up - it may not the jersey that makes the team, but its still quite important.
If you show up to a job interview in crap clothes, they're gonna treat you like crap. And call me shallow, but if I show up to a business orientated job wearing nothing but something I picked up from a dumpster, thats going to affect how I preform too.
So screw your own narrow minded ideals of acceptance and get on with reality.
I think they look pretty sharp...but I do agree with a lot of people here that the VANCOUVER seems unnecessary and clutters the front of the jersey. Colours are great, though.
It's a really nice looking jersey in paying tribute to its distant past, but the only thing I don't like with it is what many, many people seem to hate here... the "VANCOUVER" wordmark on the chest. IT IS NOT NEEDED! If it was just the Orca logo on the front, this jersey would rank much higher on the list of new jerseys that have been unveiled this summer.
So after all this hype and buildup and careful consideration, they just throw the current logo on the retro jerseys and add a horrible workmark?
Anyone who thinks that workmark adds to the jersey needs their head examined. There's barely any room left for the A's and C's. The Canucks are forever cursed with hideous uniforms.
You people obviously don't play hockey - these are great sweaters. Classic old school feel with new age curb appeal. Word marking has been missing from the NHL for a long time. Hopefully the Dallas word mark rumors are true. ps. For those of you who don't like the fit of rbk edge, you simply don't know what your talking about. Ive played in them - they are revolutionary.
WHY!!! GOD!!! Vancouver across the top not needed, otherwise not bad, but still a big let down. Why not go back to the retro C/hockystick/rink. It's simple.
Well, at least there's no bizarre striping on these new ones. But yes, it's a shame they used the wordmark. Have the Canucks joined the WCHA of the NCAA? (unfortunately it looks collegiate).
it seems like a kid designed it. The nostalgia for the old colors it's so boring, let's move on! look at the blue jackets, the improved that shitty logo they had...The "VANCOUVER" on chest it's one of the lamest ideas on a hockey jersey after the big " V" era..hope the nuck will find an identity in future...
First of all, I'll give the Canucks credit for not giving in to the trendy RBK style that has plagued other jerseys. There is trim on the bottom and there is no ugly piping down the sides. Hooray!
Having said that, this jersey looks like a bunch of ideas all rolled into one. It's like they couldn't decide if they liked VANCOUVER across the front or the Orca, so they chose both. With the exception of the New York Rangers, word marks on the front of a hockey jersey are a huge no no!
You'd think they would have just switched to the real vintage jersey, with the evolved stick in the rink logo. Vancouver sticking to something that's popular? Nah, too much logic in that.
I hope They didnt pay alot for someone to make that design because i have seen alot better ones that people do just for fun. Just One word needs to be said for the new jersey
I think they could have been a lot worse and we should be thankful for a few positives out of it. The colours and the horizontal old school stripe pattern is fantastic. How many teams still have classic horizontal stripes? The 'Vancouver' is a real retro thing going back to before the 50s. So many teams back then had similar lettering. People just aren't used to it and it could start a trend.
Well, I was prepared to hate it, but I have to say I think the new look is killer. It has a retro look, especially with the wordmark. These jerseys look tough compared to a lot of the other new "stylish" ones. This is a hockey team, not a modeling agency.
Ugly. The many different concept jerseys by fans were way better. the vancouver wording would've been ok had it been smaller. It just looks like a huge mess. Like some retard said "hey, lets mix the old jersey with the new logo and then add a giant VANCOUVER above it." they didn't even try to make it all work together.
If not for the wordmark, would rank right behind Boston's as the best so far to me. I just don't understand why the wordmark. I see that they are trying to reach all Vancouver hockey history but why? Just the NHL history would have been fine.
Hahah, they did it again. I guess with their identity crisis (numerous uniform changes in the past) "VANCOUVER” across the front is to remind them what city they play in. Awful!!!! They had a chance to bring back Johnny Canuck but blew it. No doubt in 4 years time it will be new logo and colours
Then they should just make the goalie have the Vancouver on his jersey. I like the colors, and the logo actually doesn't look as bad as I thought it would. It looks really sharp on the ice.
However, I didn't like the horizontal stripe on the bottom, and I thought if they had to put the City name on it, then at least make the letters smaller, it overpowers the rest of the jersey.
As a Vancouver fan, I actually don't mind the new jersey. The Vancouver wordmark is a nice throwback to an oldschool jersey, and they kept the key colours. All said and done, we could have come out far worse than this.
Someone should start a petition with signitures or emails or whatever against the new canucks jersey. The Canucks should take a poll as to what fans like and don't like about the new jersey and what it is missing and maybe its not to late for it to be changed before they go on sale. As for the Vancouver being on the jersey, is it on the jersey for tourism/publiciy purposes?
I'm really surprised at the negative response. These are GREAT jerseys. They have stayed true to tradition with colur and design, and haven't adopted any of the horrible Rbk design element that have ruined so many of the jerseys seen so far. If I were a Canucks fan I'd be really pleased right now.
In reference to the Flames jerseys to be revealed on Sept 4th, don't get too excited about big changes. The teaser video on the Flames website shows enough of the jersey elements to confirm that they will be identical to the Quad Cities Flames jerseys revealed several months ago, i.e. the concept jesrey on this sight which was based on those jerseys is correct... no doubt about it so don't waste much time eagarly waiting for them... you won't be seeing anything ground breaking. The only design element that remains to be revealed is the shoulder patch. The flaming horse head is gone, and a new one will be added. I'm happy that the one element of the old Flames jersey that I did not like is gone (the "V" shaped striping on the abdomen), but they have unfortunately adopted some of the stupid Rbk piping that pointlessly polutes alot of the new designs. Oh well, could have been worse, but I wish they had stuck to tradition like Vancouver has done with great success in my opinion.

Close but no cigar. I like that they went down the road Boston took in going with the horizontal striping instead of vertical, the blue and green are great, but that damn wordmark... Once they wake up and kill it from their jerseys, it'll be one of the best in the NHL.
I wanted to somewhere to vent, but I see I've been beat by everyone. I hope Zimmerman or whoever is responsible for this disaster reads ALL these comments because those are a joke. I saw so many nice concepts that I wished were chosen, but they go back to the '70s look, and to make it worse they add the scripting to the top. F'en boneheads! I guess I wont be buying one anymore.
The Canucks had such a fantastic opportunity to make things right. That whale HAS to go. The VANCOUVER lettering compounds the problem. They should have consulted the fans in the first place. The Johnny Canuck logo, a la Luongo's mask, would have been great. The moment they were released texts from friends across Canada came in, mocking the Canucks. The Canucks should suck it up - given the negative reaction - and make some changes. The fans deserve better than this.
That "Vancouver" across the chest just looks brutal. If they wanted to pay homage to the original WHL Vancouver Canucks, then why not ditch the "Orca Bay" logo and bring back the "Johnny Canuck" (the hockey playing lumberjack) logo? The only thing nice about these jerseys is the return to aqua-marine and green. But everything else...Bleh!
to me, logo and jersey design has taken a serious hit in the last couple years. they should have went back to yellow and black. they experinced the most success with that scheme.
Has anybody noticed that the main logo does not contain the same colours as the uniform? I don't see any green in the logo or any grey in the jersey.... what a disaster.
Not so bad. I'm born and bred in Vancouver and I like how it's a mix of retro and current. The "Vancouver" on the chest isn't that bad. At least it'll tell stupid moron fans who don't know where we're from, where the Cup is going to end up. They're my team, I support them and will buy a new jersey.
P.S. - There was this much uproar when they went to the Orca. You'll all get over it sooner or later.
I'm a fan. Good design, cool colors, always liked the logo. Putting VANCOUVER over the chest is okay by me; I don't think it matters either way. I guess it makes it look kind of old-school if anything. The 'Nucks aren't my team, but I am a fan of them. Better colors than the last set. Way better than the old German flag color scheme and unis.
I'm a diehard Canucks fan, and I guess I don't mind it, but I'd rather have it without the word mark, or if the word was contained in a circle or something, with the Orca.
PS . . . No offence Chris, but I think the thumbnail for the background on the 'Nucks logo shouldn't be green . . . it should go with the logo, like all the others.
I like it...very traditional without all the business of piping and nike-ness. I agree the "vancouver" block across the top is unnecessary but all in all I really dig it. It is unique now in that nobody has this color combination...let's hope it lasts more than 5 seasons.

Hideous!!! I'm just jealous of that 3rd grade designer who pocketed 1 million bucks from the Canucks. Just look at the jerseys from a distance and you can't tell what is going on...no contrast at all. Should have kept the colours but updated the 70's striping. And the logo's colours don't match the jerseys!!! Bad sign when a simple navy t-shirt with your logo on it looks 100 times better than an actual jersey. Not buying one till they take "Vancouver" off, or shrink it. Poor Naslund and the other Assistant C's will look the worst.
The jerseys would have been a lot better without the word-mark above the logo, but other than that they are gorgeous! I love how they have a unique color scheme.
I like these jerseys wish they would,ve put the green in the logo and left out the oriningal orca on the away jersey loks weird but the stick oin the rink great relates to that jersey the vancouver realtes to the vancouver millionaires and the orca reltes to now and bcs native art. oh c'mon Canuck fan, it's not like the Canucks have ever had one of the best jerseys in the league. Anything other than the old V jerseys is a step up...and its better than the old ones for sure.
it's def. different..nice classic colors and horizontal stripping...however the "vancouver"..call me crazy, but i honestly don't think it has to go completely, maybe just a little bit smaller...it creates a cool new hockey sweater concept..or maybe if they re-designed the orca "C" so that it would fit with a word mark like that...who knows
The only people who should be pleased with these sweaters are Buffalo Sabres fans. As of today they don't support the NHL team with the worst sweater. Move over Buffaslug and make room for the Vanorcas.

I'm an Oiler fan, but with some of the concepts I've seen for the Nucks, I was very excited to see what a million dollar design looked like...What a ripoff! Everyone is saying get rid of the wordmark, I would go completely the other way... Kill the Orca, it's a corporate symbol, leave the "Vancouver". THEN it looks classic.
No wonder that the Canuckleheads are the 2nd worst team in the league (1st worst team is Calgary Shames). I guess that explains why they usually end up at the bottom of the NW Div. From an Oilers fan :P
Most of you seem to be on glue. The blue could have been a little darker but that's the only criticism I have. The wordmark celebrates the city, we get the stick and rink on the shoulder and the Orca is pretty cool. There's the vintage touch going back to the original colours. Hopefully the franchise doesn't change the colours EVER again so we can keep some sense of identity and tradition. Stop sniffing glue.

first of all the new team colors are royal blue white and green yet they decide to have alot of black in the logo? we must be the only team in sports who has a different color logo than whats on the jerseys.

VERY disappointed with Vancouver's new jerseys... but then again, when has their design department ever come up with a good jersey in the last 30 years? They would've been better off just going with the real retro blue/green/white jerseys because all they did was change the colours of the logo, add VANCOUVER and call it a day.

I don't think these duds are that bad, considering the orca logo is still on it. The wordmark adds a little character above a somewhat dull logo. The jersey colors have improved as well. Those of you who think this is worse than the buffaslug mutation, give your heads a shake!

I'm also completely disappointed in the change to the secondary stick the rink logo. it looks ridiculous now, before it was shaped nicely like a hockey stick, now it just looks like a 4th grader drew it
First, I got tired of trying to read the 180+ comments, although the comment of 37 years of ugly jerseys was funny.
"Vancouver" across the front is an homage to the Vancouver Millionaires of the Pacific Coast Hockey League that operated until 1925. I believe they won two Stanley Cups. I was opposed to it at first as well, but once I found that out, I recognized it for what it was, a nod to Vancouver hocky history. Not just Canucks.
All you people who are defending the "Vancouver" wordmark because it pays tribute to the Millionaires are way off. Sure, the Millionaires played in Vancouver, but that's about all they have in common. The Millionaires played in a different league, with a different name, 50 years before the Canucks ever existed. That's be like the Senators unveiling their all new uniform and *gasp* it's the 1905 Silver Seven black, red, and white striped piece of art. Sure it's history, but that doesn't make it suitable for use on what's supposed to be "new and improved".
And by the way, the wordmark would be so much better if it was about 1/2 the size.
whatever man! the millionaires do play a part in the history because the history is not just about where or when, its about the city, its about vancouver, thats what makes the logo! i think if the font was 1/2 the size, whats the point?? thatll look uglier! if theyre gonna put the vancouver on, it should stand out, it looks great the way it is, i cant wait to buy one, because im a proud canuck fan and this is definately awesome. no other team thinks about putting as much thought into a jersey.. other teams just think about image and what "looks" good, this jersey isnt about that, its about the pride of vancouver, which is HUGE
there is meaning to everything. in the video it says "it's been a long and curious road, but we are now vancouver owned again" talking about the ownership of this team. it should VANCOUVER loud and proudly. lets support our team and their logo. i dont know why everyone wants to be negative, thats not what vancouver is about.
oh man.... i feel sorry for canucks fans everywhere.... so many leaks that looked soooo good... and then you get this. i love the white orca though, and the stick in the rink looks good... but the "VANCOUVER" over the orca ruins the whole thing... and they definatley could've gone a little more modern... it's not really jersey the makes it look bad.. it's that terrible wordmark, but all in all? still hideous.
wow....as a canucks fan i was really excited to see what they were going to do...however after seeing it i wish that they hadn't revealed them yet...the colors and the symbols are sweet....but what the hell were they thinking throwing the word vancouver on there....it just looks like too much stuff thrown onto one jersey

Almost perfect...by next season the out of place "Vancouver" will be gone.

ReplyDeleteIt's a really nice looking jersey in paying tribute to its distant past, but the only thing I don't like with it is what many, many people seem to hate here... the "VANCOUVER" wordmark on the chest. IT IS NOT NEEDED! If it was just the Orca logo on the front, this jersey would rank much higher on the list of new jerseys that have been unveiled this summer.

First of all, I'll give the Canucks credit for not giving in to the trendy RBK style that has plagued other jerseys. There is trim on the bottom and there is no ugly piping down the sides. Hooray!

You'd think they would have just switched to the real vintage jersey, with the evolved stick in the rink logo. Vancouver sticking to something that's popular? Nah, too much logic in that.
I hope They didnt pay alot for someone to make that design because i have seen alot better ones that people do just for fun. Just One word needs to be said for the new jersey

ReplyDeleteThe 'Vancouver' is a real retro thing going back to before the 50s. So many teams back then had similar lettering. People just aren't used to it and it could start a trend.

As a Vancouver fan, I actually don't mind the new jersey. The Vancouver wordmark is a nice throwback to an oldschool jersey, and they kept the key colours. All said and done, we could have come out far worse than this.

Someone should start a petition with signitures or emails or whatever against the new canucks jersey. The Canucks should take a poll as to what fans like and don't like about the new jersey and what it is missing and maybe its not to late for it to be changed before they go on sale. As for the Vancouver being on the jersey, is it on the jersey for tourism/publiciy purposes?

They have stayed true to tradition with colur and design, and haven't adopted any of the horrible Rbk design element that have ruined so many of the jerseys seen so far. If I were a Canucks fan I'd be really pleased right now.
ReplyDeleteIn reference to the Flames jerseys to be revealed on Sept 4th, don't get too excited about big changes. The teaser video on the Flames website shows enough of the jersey elements to confirm that they will be identical to the Quad Cities Flames jerseys revealed several months ago, i.e. the concept jesrey on this sight which was based on those jerseys is correct... no doubt about it so don't waste much time eagarly waiting for them... you won't be seeing anything ground breaking. The only design element that remains to be revealed is the shoulder patch. The flaming horse head is gone, and a new one will be added. I'm happy that the one element of the old Flames jersey that I did not like is gone (the "V" shaped striping on the abdomen), but they have unfortunately adopted some of the stupid Rbk piping that pointlessly polutes alot of the new designs. Oh well, could have been worse, but I wish they had stuck to tradition like Vancouver has done with great success in my opinion.

That "Vancouver" across the chest just looks brutal. If they wanted to pay homage to the original WHL Vancouver Canucks, then why not ditch the "Orca Bay" logo and bring back the "Johnny Canuck" (the hockey playing lumberjack) logo? The only thing nice about these jerseys is the return to aqua-marine and green. But everything else...Bleh!

I'm a fan. Good design, cool colors, always liked the logo. Putting VANCOUVER over the chest is okay by me; I don't think it matters either way. I guess it makes it look kind of old-school if anything. The 'Nucks aren't my team, but I am a fan of them. Better colors than the last set. Way better than the old German flag color scheme and unis.

I like it...very traditional without all the business of piping and nike-ness. I agree the "vancouver" block across the top is unnecessary but all in all I really dig it. It is unique now in that nobody has this color combination...let's hope it lasts more than 5 seasons.

ReplyDeleteHideous!!! I'm just jealous of that 3rd grade designer who pocketed 1 million bucks from the Canucks. Just look at the jerseys from a distance and you can't tell what is going on...no contrast at all. Should have kept the colours but updated the 70's striping. And the logo's colours don't match the jerseys!!! Bad sign when a simple navy t-shirt with your logo on it looks 100 times better than an actual jersey. Not buying one till they take "Vancouver" off, or shrink it. Poor Naslund and the other Assistant C's will look the worst.

ReplyDeleteI'm an Oiler fan, but with some of the concepts I've seen for the Nucks, I was very excited to see what a million dollar design looked like...What a ripoff! Everyone is saying get rid of the wordmark, I would go completely the other way... Kill the Orca, it's a corporate symbol, leave the "Vancouver". THEN it looks classic.

ReplyDeleteMost of you seem to be on glue. The blue could have been a little darker but that's the only criticism I have. The wordmark celebrates the city, we get the stick and rink on the shoulder and the Orca is pretty cool. There's the vintage touch going back to the original colours. Hopefully the franchise doesn't change the colours EVER again so we can keep some sense of identity and tradition. Stop sniffing glue.

VERY disappointed with Vancouver's new jerseys... but then again, when has their design department ever come up with a good jersey in the last 30 years? I don't think these duds are that bad, considering the orca logo is still on it. The wordmark adds a little character above a somewhat dull logo. The jersey colors have improved as well. Those of you who think this is worse than the buffaslug mutation, give your heads a shake!

its official...this jersey overtakes the Flying V as the Canucks worst jersey ever in team history.
seriously who is going to buy this crap? besides a few thousand Vancouver sheep who must absolutly have it because its the new,cool and trendy thing to have in B.C
I havent seen 1 decent new rbk design from any team....yet.
they all suck.
and im losing faith.
jersey sales will suffer and the nhl will switch back to the traditional style jersey.
these RBK jerseys will go the way of the Cooperall in a few years,they will be scrapped..hopefully (remember when the Cooperalls were called cutting edge technology?)

ReplyDelete"Vancouver" across the front is an homage to the Vancouver Millionaires of the Pacific Coast Hockey League that operated until 1925. I believe they won two Stanley Cups. I was opposed to it at first as well, but once I found that out, I recognized it for what it was, a nod to Vancouver hocky history. Not just Canucks.

ReplyDeleteAll you people who are defending the "Vancouver" wordmark because it pays tribute to the Millionaires are way off. Sure, the Millionaires played in Vancouver, but that's about all they have in common. The Millionaires played in a different league, with a different name, 50 years before the Canucks ever existed. That's be like the Senators unveiling their all new uniform and *gasp* it's the 1905 Silver Seven black, red, and white striped piece of art. Sure it's history, but that doesn't make it suitable for use on what's supposed to be "new and improved".

whatever man! the millionaires do play a part in the history because the history is not just about where or when, its about the city, its about vancouver, thats what makes the logo! i think if the font was 1/2 the size, whats the point?? thatll look uglier! if theyre gonna put the vancouver on, it should stand out, it looks great the way it is, i cant wait to buy one, because im a proud canuck fan and this is definately awesome. no other team thinks about putting as much thought into a jersey.. other teams just think about image and what "looks" good, this jersey isnt about that, its about the pride of vancouver, which is HUGE

ReplyDeletethere is meaning to everything. in the video it says "it's been a long and curious road, but we are now vancouver owned again" talking about the ownership of this team. it should VANCOUVER loud and proudly. lets support our team and their logo. i dont know why everyone wants to be negative, thats not what vancouver is about.

ReplyDeleteoh man.... i feel sorry for canucks fans everywhere.... so many leaks that looked soooo good... and then you get this. i love the white orca though, and the stick in the rink looks good... but the "VANCOUVER" over the orca ruins the whole thing... and they definatley could've gone a little more modern... it's not really jersey the makes it look bad.. it's that terrible wordmark, but all in all? still hideous.
ReplyDeletewow....as a canucks fan i was really excited to see what they were going to do...however after seeing it i wish that they hadn't revealed them yet...the colors and the symbols are sweet....but what the hell were they thinking throwing the word vancouver on there....it just looks like too much stuff thrown onto one jersey
